After you copy the files off the drive, you can agree to let Windows format (erase) the disk. Sometimes you just deserve a smack :S Thanks for all the help. In this instance my external hard drive particulars are as follows: Seagate Expansion Desk SCSI Disk Device I have formatted the drive on my Windows 7 PC.
